Historic landmarks recently built-out into commercial and retail spaces in downtown Chicago

Scope of Services

Reid Murdoch Building, Medinah Temple and Tree Studios are all part of the historic fabric of the City of Chicago.  Friedman Properties developed and restored these 3 landmark buildings and adaptively transformed them into commercial and retail spaces.  The Reid Murdoch Building used to be offices and a grocery warehouse, but currently houses the headquarters for Encyclopedia Britannica.  Medinah Temple is an old theater built by the Shriners of Chicago that has now been built-out to house the Bloomingdales Home Store.  Tree Studios is an historic artists' studio building that has now been divided into retail shops and restaurants along State Street.

Alexander & Associates, Ltd. was hired by Friedman Properties after the construction was completed to evaluate the condition of the exteriors of these buildings.  A series of exterior wall inspections were conducted by Alexander & Associates, Ltd. to determine the condition of the exterior elements including masonry, lintels, terra cotta, stone and caulk.  A series of reports were generated to conclude the evaluation and provide Friedman Properties with an assessment of the buildings and a guide to the necessary repairs.
