Scope of Services
Chicago Jewish Funerals President, David Jacobson, interviewed several leading architects before choosing Alexander & Associates, Ltd. to design the new location in Skokie. The building includes two chapels on the ground floor, office space on the 2nd floor, a basement preparation area and ample parking to service the growing north suburban Jewish funeral needs. The facility is a state of the art 15,000 square foot building.
The radial building configuration is a response to the curved intersection of Niles Center Road and Skokie Boulevard. The focal point of the curve is the "Kohanim". This is the portion of the building, where the Kohain gather. Jerusalem stone, glass and metal panels are used to create a modern interpretation of Jewish architectural traditions. In addition to being contemporary in appearance, the building has many sustainable features incorporated into the design. Daylighting, rain water harvesting, high efficiency restroom fixtures and high efficiency building insulation and lighting fixtures are a few of the "green" characteristics of this building.
